Each spring, the Young Alumni Council honors two outstanding alumni who have gone above and beyond in service and devotion to the University of Virginia with the Alumni Service Award.
Candidates may have advocated for change, facilitated innovative solutions to challenges faced by members of the University community, served the University faithfully, or inspired others to do the same. Candidates may have exhibited the qualities of service and commitment in a single extraordinary endeavor, or demonstrated enduring affection and attention to bettering the University over time.
Nominations for the Alumni Service Award may be submitted by any member of the University community. This year, one alum who graduated within the last 10 years and one alum who graduated more than 10 years ago will be selected.
Alumni Service Award recipients are honored at an annual awards ceremony and have an opportunity to direct a $1,000 gift, funded by the Alumni Service Award endowment, to any area of the University of Virginia. Over the years, funds have been distributed to departments, programs, organizations, and scholarships across the University by Alumni Service Award recipients, including:
