What is the Alumni Service Award?
Each spring, the Young Alumni Council honors two outstanding alumni who have gone above and beyond in devotion to the University of Virginia with the Alumni Service Award. Candidates whose actions demonstrate exemplary personal service and commitment to the University will be considered. This year, two alumni will be selected as Alumni Service Award winners—one who graduated before 2008 and one who graduated between 2008–2019.
Candidates may have identified needs for change and found innovative solutions to ongoing or new issues faced by students, administrators, faculty and alumni; or through their lives and contact with others, advocated for and inspired others to serve the needs of the University of Virginia. Candidates may have exhibited the qualities of service and commitment in a single extraordinary endeavor, or may have demonstrated enduring affection and attention to bettering the University through service initiatives undertaken year-after-year.
Alumni Service Award winners are honored at an annual awards ceremony celebrating individual service contributions. Winners also have to opportunity to direct a $1,000 gift, funded by the award endowment, to any area of the University of Virginia. This donation pays tribute to the Alumni Service Award winners’ service.
Nominations for the Alumni Service Award may be submitted by individuals, alumni clubs and organizations, University of Virginia faculty, administrators, and employees, and others.
