Each spring, two new board members from the current fourth year undergraduate class, along with other alumni who have graduated in the last 12 years, are selected to serve on Young Alumni Council. The Council seeks alumni who are passionate about working to optimize the post graduate experience for all young alumni, regardless of their involvement as students or their current engagement with the University as alumni.
If you would like to apply for Young Alumni Council, please submit a new member application before February 20, 2022.
Duties of Council Members
At the heart of Young Alumni Council are the 36 alumni that comprise its membership, composed of 2 representatives from each of the 12 most recent undergraduate classes and 12 at-large members. The success of Council depends largely on the leadership, enthusiasm, and dedication provided by the Council’s members. These volunteers generate initiatives and activities, while the Alumni Association’s staff works diligently to implement endeavors.
Committee members’ responsibilities generally include the following:
- Actively participate on one of the Council’s committees.
- Actively participate in Council-related activities.
- Represent the Young Alumni Council, the Alumni Association, and the University whether are on Grounds or in your respective community.
- Attend 3 annual meetings in Charlottesville* (meetings are held over Homecomings Weekend in the fall, Foxfield Weekend in the spring and in mid-summer) and participate in occasional conference calls as scheduled by individual committees.
*Newly selected members are required to attend a summer orientation meeting in Charlottesville the summer immediately following their selection in addition to the two other annual meetings.
Members serve for a term of three years and may be eligible for re-election to an additional three-year period at the expiration of their first term. From its inception, Young Alumni Council has attempted to be a dynamic, proactive group. Each member is expected to be active and willing to take on responsibilities related to the goals of the Young Alumni Council.
