Prospective First-Gen Student Support: Attend local high school college fairs alongside a UVA dean or another alumnus

Admitted First-Gen Student Support: Make congratulatory phone calls to admitted students in the spring and/or connect with admitted students at local accepted student parties and student send-offs

Enhanced First-Gen Student Support: Mentor UVA first-gen students through the Virginia Alumni Mentor (VAM) program

Alumni Contributors: Contribute in networking efforts and employment opportunities for both first-gen students and fellow first-gen alumni

Confidential Information

I acknowledge that I am to be given access to the Confidential Information (identified below) only for purposes of Authorized Use (as defined below). I agree that I will ensure the information I receive is kept safe and secure from any unauthorized access, which includes preventing access to my computer files, paper files, or other media which contain University of Virginia and Alumni Association data. I agree that I will not:

(i) directly or indirectly utilize such Confidential Information for any other purpose;

(ii) copy or modify Confidential Information, or any portion thereof;

(iii) disclose the Confidential Information to any third party; or

(iv) put any Confidential Information into any large language model-enabled systems or LLM-based tools, including but not limited to Chat GPT, Bard, or any other applications powered by such system.

For purposes of this Agreement, “Authorized Use” means to serve as a Virginia Alumni Admission Network (VAAN) volunteer and/or First Gen Alumni Network supporting recruitment and/or yield efforts for populations the University and the Office of Undergraduate Admission deem are underrepresented. “Confidential Information” means prospective and/or admitted high school student names, contact information, and admission status together with any other information that by its nature would reasonably be considered sensitive, proprietary, or confidential. If I suspect or become aware of any unauthorized disclosure, access, or acquisition of Confidential Information (“Data Breach”) I agree to report such Data Breach to the Association immediately.

I acknowledge that with respect to Confidential Information that includes personally identifying information about individuals, my use of the Confidential Information is subject to and governed by the UVA Advancement Privacy Statement:

The foregoing obligation not to disclose Confidential Information shall not apply to any information, data or other materials imparted to the extent that any of the following conditions apply: (a) At the time access is gained, the information is already in my possession or was provided to me by a third party having no obligation to the University of Virginia or the University of Virginia Alumni Association; (b) The information is, or any time hereafter becomes, available to the public without breach of this Agreement by me; (c) After access is gained to the disclosure, the information is at any time obtained by me from any other person, firm or company having no obligation to or relationship with the University of Virginia or the University of Virginia Alumni Association. I shall not be liable for disclosure of Confidential Information if made in response to a valid order of a court or authorized agency of government; provided that ten days' notice first be given to the University of Virginia Alumni Association so it may seek a protective order, if appropriate.

Upon termination of the specific volunteer activities set forth as Authorized Use, I shall return promptly to the University of Virginia Alumni Association any and all Confidential Information in my physical possession, delete any Confidential Information in my possession in digital form, and acknowledge to the University of Virginia Alumni Association in writing that I have done so.
