The Glynn D. Key Memorial Scholarship Fund

Glynn D. KeyGlynn Key was an outstanding leader and a visionary whose work led to the creation of the Ridley Scholarship Program in 1987. To honor Glynn Key, the Ridley Scholarship Program will raise $1 million dollars to award an out-of-state tuition and fee scholarship in the 2025–2026 school year.

About Glynn

Glynn D. Key graduated from the University of Virginia College of Arts & Sciences in 1986 and the University of Virginia School of Law in 1989. While on Grounds, Key’s leadership and impact through the organizations she served was far-reaching and remarkable. She was a prestigious resident of the Lawn, a member of the IMP Society, a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, and the first Black chair of the Honor Committee. She was also a member of the College Student Council, Resident Staff, First Year Seminars, and the Black Law Student Association. She served as the student representative on the Board of Visitors as well. Upon her death, it was revealed that Key was also a member of the Seven Society.

Key worked in the Department of the Interior under President Bill Clinton and continued her success as a partner of the WilmerHale law firm in Washington, DC and then as general counsel for General Electric. As an alumna, Key remained a staunch supporter of the University as a member of the University of Virginia Board of Visitors, the UVA Alumni Association’s Board of Managers Chair, a governing member of the Miller Center of Public Affairs, and on the Board of Trustees of the Thomas Jefferson Foundation.

The Ridley Scholarship Program seeks to attract Black students of the highest academic caliber to the University. The program has awarded scholarships to over 300 talented student leaders over the past thirty years, helping each scholar realize their unique potential as global citizen leaders.
