A Weekend Like No Other
This past fall, we sat down with members of the BAW Committee to talk about what it means to be part of the Black UVA community. Alumni shared stories of lifelong connections, what it takes to create space at UVA, the legacy of Black excellence through the generations, and what makes BAW so special.

Grow Your Network
Take your career to the next level with Alumni Professional Networks, industry-aligned communities of UVA alumni supported by the Alumni Association. These groups create opportunities for alumni to meet peers in their field, engage in industry-focused programming and more. We currently host nine industry groups, with more to come! Join a network to stay in the loop about upcoming events.
Stay Engaged with Black Alumni
Ubunye, which means unity in Zulu, is the new interest group for UVA Black alumni. Get involved with Ubunye today to collaborate and connect with Black Hoos across the world!
Give to the Ridley Scholarship Program
Keep the spirit of BAW alive by supporting future generations of Black alumni! The Ridley Scholarship Program was established at the first BAW in 1987 and has since evolved into a multimillion-dollar family of funds that has helped over 300 students pursue their passions at UVA. Consider giving today—any amount makes a difference.
Support the Alumni Association
There are a variety of ways to support the Alumni Association, from giving to the Annual Fund to donating to any of our more than 250 scholarships to becoming a Contributing Member. Your gift of any size will make more hoo-rah-ray happen: stronger connections, bigger and better events, more inclusive programs and services, and everything in between.
About Black Alumni Weekend
BAW started in 1985 as an admission recruiting effort hosted by the Walter Ridley Scholarship Committee and now brings over 1,500 alumni and friends to Grounds every two years for an unforgettable weekend of connections, laughter, and lifelong memories.
