The Virginia Sil’hooettes 35th Anniversary Weekend with 100 past and present Sils
The Virginia Sil’hooettes, UVA’s most award-winning a cappella group, celebrated their 35th anniversary this spring with an entire weekend of events dedicated to celebrating their alumni. Over 100 graduated Sils came back to grounds, including their four founders and many of the original members from the group’s inaugural year in 1989.

When I was accepted to UVA in December 1990, my dad ordered a personalized license plate to celebrate the Class of 1995 before I had even stepped foot into LeFevre dorm for first year. After finding my car missing the prized plate more than once during my four years on Grounds, I had an extra for display. It seemed only fitting to wear the plate on gravitation day for the final walk down the Lawn. My car still bears the 1995 brand, and I often hear a honk and “Wahoowa” from fellow drivers.
