YAR Frequently Asked Questions

In the spirit of health, safety, and delivering the best possible experience to attendees, the Alumni Association has made the difficult decision to to cancel YAR 2020, scheduled to take place over Homecomings Weekend this fall. This decision was made with federal, state, and local guidelines in mind, including the University’s plans for the fall semester and Final Exercises for the Class of 2020.

While we cannot confidently, safely invite thousands of young alumni to return to Charlottesville for YAR this year, we look forward to bringing the Classes of 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021 together next fall for YAR 2021.

Who is invited to attend YAR?

YAR welcomes the 3 most recent undergraduate classes of UVA young alumni back to Charlottesville on Homecomings night. This year, members of the Classes of 2018, 2019, and 2020 and their guests are invited to attend if public health and University operations allow.

All YAR attendees must be over the age of 21, regardless of graduation year, and will be ID-ed by security staff at the entrance to the event.

YAR registration will open online in August.

Shuttles for YAR attendees will run from the University to the Downtown Transit Station and back throughout the event. Specific details on timing and pick up locations will be posted here in the coming months.

If you plan to park downtown, the City of Charlottesville operates two public parking garages in the immediate vicinity of the Downtown Mall: the Market Street Garage at 550 East Market Street and the Water Street Garage at 200 East Water Street. Both garages are open from 6 a.m. to 1 a.m. on Saturdays and cost $2 per hour.

And, of course, you can always use Uber, Lyft, or a cab.
