School of Nursing Homecomings Brunch

Event Description: School of Nursing alumni, faculty, and staff – we hope to see you at the Nursing Homecomings Brunch at Pavilion IX on October 13th from 10am-12pm. Join Dean Fontaine, fellow students, SON faculty and staff, alumni and friends for food, drinks, games and face painting before the game!

University Guides Young Alumni Tailgate

Rodman Scholars Young Alumni Reception

Date/Time: Saturday, October 13, 1:00-4:00 p.m.
Location: West Lawn, Room 31
Event Description: Rodman alumni! Join us in Room 31 West Lawn to catch up with current Rodmans, find old classmates, and hear from the legendary Elzey. UVA Alumni Association Tailgate

Date/Time: Saturday, October 13, 4:00-6:30 p.m.
Location: Alumni Hall (211 Emmet St. S)
Event Description: Join us at Alumni Hall for a great pre-game tailgate. The event features $2 drafts from Hardywood Park, live music by Whiskey Rebellion, facepainting and glitter tattoos, a BBQ lunch from Blue Ridge Cafe, homemade ice cream from Kline’s Dairy Bar, a bounce house for the kids, raffles, giveaways, and more!  There will be a free shuttle to the game leaving at 5:45 p.m., and continuing on a loop until kick-off.

Residence Staff Alumni Tailgate

Young Alumni Reunions (YAR)

Date/Time: Saturday, October 13; 9:00 p.m. – Midnight
Location: Sprint Pavilion, Downtown Charlottesville
Event Description: Young Alumni Reunions (YAR) is the UVA young alumni party of the year. YAR takes place on the Saturday night of Homecomings Weekend and welcomes the University’s youngest undergraduate classes back to Charlottesville with a DJ and dancing, photo booth and late-night food and drink. Tickets are $25 ($20 for Alumni Association members). The most recently graduated classes can purchase tickets online through Saturday, October 13 at 2:00 p.m. Tickets will not be sold at the door of the event. Want to know more? Pre-Performance Lecture: Bernstein’s Mass & The Crisis of Fate

Date/Time: Friday, October 12, 3:30 p.m.
Location: Minor Hall Auditorium
Event Description: Leonard Bernstein’s Mass opened the Kennedy Center in 1971, and since that time has been a lightening rod for conversations on what Bernstein himself called, “the crisis of our century, a crisis of faith.” In preparation for performances of Mass at the Paramount on Oct. 13th & 14th, join UVA conductor and associate professor Michael Slon, along with lead soloist Kevin Vortmann (who has recorded the work with the Philadelphia Orchestra) for a lecture and panel discussion on this extraordinary and transformative work. More Than the Score Lecture Series

Event Description: Join Lifetime Learning for their pre-game lecture, featuring Mary Molly Schwartzburg and John Unsworth.  This week’s topic is “Unpacking Pat Oliphant: A First Glimpse into the Archive of the Pulitzer Prize-Winning Political Cartoonist.” In Spring 2018 the UVA Library announced the acquisition of the papers of the Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial cartoonist and fine artist Patrick Oliphant. Learn how the collection came to UVA, see some of its richest contents, and hear how the library expects the collection to become a part of the research and teaching profile of the University’s arts, politics, and history programs. Bernstein’s Mass (ft. the University Singers & Guest Artists)

Date/Time: Saturday, October 13, 8:00 p.m. & Sunday, October 14, 2:30 p.m.
Location: Paramount Theater
Event Description: The UVA Department of Music and University Singers, in collaboration with the UVA Office of the Vice Provost for the Arts, present the regional premiere of Leonard Bernstein’s Mass. Featuring a cast of more than 150 singers, dancers, and instrumentalists, this fully staged production recreates the piece that opened the Kennedy Center in 1971. The work arises from Bernstein’s ongoing concern with a 20th century “crisis of faith,” and takes audiences on an unforgettable and genre-spanning journey from doubt and struggle to newfound and hard-won faith. Performed in conjunction with worldwide celebrations of the Bernstein Centennial, this is sure to be a musical-theatrical highlight of the season!

Hoos Under the Lights

Event Description: Join the UVA Student Homecomings Board for an afternoon of food and fun!  Pizza, Bodo’s, and Raising Cane’s will be available for you to enjoy for free while being serenaded by UVA a capella groups, and entertained by The Whethermen.  You can also purchase your limited edition Homecomings 2018 t-shirt here!

Pancakes for Parkinson’s

Date/Time: Saturday, October 13, 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Location: The Lawn
Event Description: Come celebrate UVA Homecomings Weekend and the beautiful fall weather at this outdoor brunch! Pancakes for Parkinson’s is an annual UVA tradition, featuring free pancakes and toppings, and performances by various UVA music and dance groups. All donations will go to support Parkinson’s Disease research and the search for a cure through the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
