UVA offers a wide variety of health services to its students on Grounds. The health and psychological counseling services at Student Health and Wellness are available to all registered students who have paid the comprehensive fee, regardless of insurance coverage.
Students are encouraged to make an appointment when they need care at Student Health and Wellness. Many appointments can be made in the Healthy Hoos Portal, a secure online patient website that provides patients convenient, 24-hour access to their personal health information. To access Healthy Hoos, students log in using their Netbadge account information. Through Healthy Hoos, students can make an appointment, securely message with a provider, submit any required forms prior to an appointment, review immunization records and view billing statements.
If students have an urgent need and no appointment, a “triage” system is available, whereby students can see or speak with a care provider who will advise them, refer them for same-day care or suggest a scheduled appointment. Student Health and Wellness is located just off Central Grounds, making it only a short walk for students, and offers many resources, including:
- General Medicine
- Physicians and nurse practitioners provide primary care for acute illness and injury as well as chronic conditions. In addition, clinicians are able to perform certain office procedures. When medical specialty treatment is necessary, clinicians will arrange and coordinate referral to the UVA Health System or to a community provider.
- Reproductive and Gender-Related Health
- Student Health and Wellness offers gynecological services and services for LGBTQ+ students.
- Allergy Clinic and Injections
- The Allergy Clinic at UVA Student Health and Wellness is staffed by nurses trained in the administration of allergy immunotherapy.
- Immunization Clinic and TB Screening
- Student Health and Wellness offers a variety of Immunizations that are administered by appointment only.
If you’re not feeling well, don’t hesitate to make an appointment at Student Health and Wellness or with Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). The doctors, nurses and staff are there to help you, so take advantage of UVA’s health services if you need them.
