How is advising handled?

Students are assigned a faculty advisor upon entry to the University. After a student declares their major, they are assigned an advisor within their major.

What do UVA faculty have to say about the School of Architecture?

“Our students and faculty are not only challenging existing practices in response to the global scale and speed of ecological, cultural, and technological change that are impacting our built and natural environment, but are also leading in its stewardship and strategic revisioning through the creation of new knowledge and transformative design practices. Our disciplines hold both the creative promise and critical responsibility to define and build environments that are dynamic, meaningful and sustainable cultural artifacts — and to create the most just, compelling and courageous of futures.” Ila Berman, Dean & Edward E. Elson Professor of Architecture

What do students have to say about the School of Architecture?

“Students take Lessons in Making and Studio Foundation during their first year. These classes are foundational to learning how to think like a designer…they prep you to think about these sorts of things. One thing that’s really nice about the A-School is that there’s no requirement to come in with the foundations and you can start from any point because that’s what these classes are for.” Perri Dinnerman (Arch ’23)

How do I know if the School of Architecture is right for me?

Architecture is the combination of art with technology, and students interested in the program tend to gravitate towards math, science and design.
