What is offered in the McIntire School?
The McIntire School of Commerce allows students to combine a world-class business program with an outstanding two-year foundation in liberal arts at the University. Through the innovative Integrated Core Experience (ICE) — a continuously updated curriculum that integrates the most current and relevant business skills and perspectives — third-year students in the school’s top-ranked B.S. in Commerce Program acquire a comprehensive understanding of business. During their fourth year of study at McIntire, students attain specialized expertise in one or more of the school’s five areas of concentration: accounting, finance, information technology, management and marketing.
How is advising handled?
Students are assigned a faculty advisor upon entry to the University. Students receive a block faculty leader during their third year. After a student declares their major, they are assigned an advisor within their major.
What do UVA faculty have to say about McIntire?
“At McIntire, our tradition is innovation. We are committed to excellence, deeply aware of our responsibility to produce thoughtful, ethical, and productive citizens, and mindful of the principled tradition that brought us so far. We also recognize, however, that today’s fiercely competitive global reality demands constant and close attention to our curriculum and to the strategic allocation of School resources. In the face of these challenges, we seek to provide McIntire students with an education that prepares them for a lifetime of leadership, integrity, and success. In short, we seek to provide the best business education in the world.” Carl P. Zeithaml, former Dean of McIntire and current F.S. Cornell Professor of Free Enterprise
What do students have to say about McIntire?
“My favorite part of the ICE project was delivering our presentation to Margaritaville. Each ICE team has the opportunity to present its project to the executives of the corporate sponsor. Margaritaville’s CEO, CMO, and COO all came from Florida to watch our presentations, provide feedback, and ask questions about our work. This was an incredible opportunity to have during my first semester of business school.” –Kathryn Cardenas (Comm ’20)
How do I know if McIntire is right for me?
