What is offered in the Kinesiology program?

The Kinesiology program — which is housed within the School of Education and Human Development — advances the discovery, development, interpretation, dissemination and application of knowledge that relates the study of human movement and physical activity to human well-being. The program fosters innovation and diversity across many dimensions and prepares students to engage in projects that address the needs of an increasingly complex and diverse society. Students enter Kinesiology with their major already declared, and they have ample opportunities for hands-on experience in addition to classroom learning.

How is advising handled?

Students are assigned a faculty advisor upon entry to the University.

What do students have to say about the Kinesiology program?

“I began with an interest in athletic performance. Now, I have experience in cardiac rehab, fitness & wellness, and research, and I feel prepared for medical school and a health care career.”
—Andrew Paisley (Educ ’20)

“The professors are wonderful. I remember when I was looking at UVA and now that I’ve started to look at jobs and advanced degrees I’ve come to appreciate how phenomenal and renown the faculty at UVA are in the [Kinesiology] Department are. If you were to attend another school and read an article about sports medicine or orthopedics or anything like that there’s a really good chance that one of the authors on it is a UVA faculty member…They are the leaders in the field and that’s really cool to learn from.”
—Allie Kowalewski (Educ ’20)

How do I know if the Kinesiology program is right for me?
