Schedule a Meeting

Our program is structured in two parts: Info Session & Individual Meeting.

Here’s how to participate.  Please read all of the following instructions before scheduling a meeting!

Step 1:  Schedule a meeting

You can schedule a phone or Zoom meeting and our system will show you all available appointments in real time.

Meetings are scheduled by the UVA alumnus parent(s) on behalf of the student. When the meeting is held, College Compass counselors speak directly with the students and encourage parent participation.

Pay close attention to the confirmation letter you will receive as it contains instructions for the following steps!

Step 2: Watch our informational webinar before your meeting

You MUST view the College Compass generalized information webinar appropriate to your meeting type as a mandatory prerequisite for your individual meeting. In each webinar, we provide perspective on the general admission process and timelines, reveal stats from most recent admission cycle, and discuss the profile of a competitive legacy applicant. This allows us to speak more in depth about your personal interests during your meeting. Your appointment confirmation email will contain the link to access our webinars.

Step 3:  Send us your unofficial transcript and school profile

Transcripts and school profiles are REQUIRED for your individual meeting and form the core of the service we provide to you. This meeting provides detailed feedback on your student’s personal academic performance and goals, and serves as a supplement to advice from your student’s guidance counselor.

Please email your documents to college-compass@virginia.edu at least 24 hours in advance.

Ready to get started?

The recommended timing for scheduling College Compass meetings is:

  • 1st Meeting — early in the sophomore year
  • 2nd Meeting — after completion of the junior year

Students may meet with us any time after their freshman year and before September 1 of their senior year, on up to two occasions. Meetings should be separated by at least a full semester, and the last meeting will ideally be held in the summer after junior year grades are available. This recommended timing maximizes our services to the student, however, families are welcome to meet with us at any point during the 10th and 11th grade years. Students who meet with us for the first time in the late spring of Junior year may benefit from having only one meeting.

  • Transfers meet once, in advance of their application deadline. This can be in addition to previous high school meetings.

Because College Compass is a preparatory program, we do not meet with students after September 1st of their senior year. There is no information we can provide to seniors to meaningfully enhance their application so close to application due dates, and we do not meet with students after applications are submitted.

If you are a middle school student, wait to see us in a few years. Meanwhile, email us for student and parent guides about the middle school years.
