More Than the Score: Innovation at UVA

Event Description: From novel medical imaging to the Internet of Things, from the artificial pancreas to improved water purification—faculty, staff and students at the University of Virginia are innovating every day. Michael Straightiff, Executive Director, UVA Licensing & Ventures Group, will be joined by several innovators to discuss their developments and how innovation at UVA enriches the student experience, provides opportunities for researchers and alumni, catalyzes economic development and, most importantly, improves human health and the human experience. Aboriginal Art Tour

Date: Saturday, October 15; 10:30 a.m.
Location: Kluge-Ruhe Aboriginal Art Collection (400 Worrell Drive)
Event Description: The Kluge-Ruhe Aboriginal Art Collection at UVA is the only museum dedicated to Indigenous Australian art in the United States. Join the Kluge-Ruhe Collection on Saturday, October 15 at 10:30 am for a free, docent-led tour of the museum’s current exhibitions. There will be two exhibitions on view, one titled Art and Country featuring works from the permanent collection and the second includes drawings, prints and photographs by artist Damien Shen (Ngarrindjeri, Chinese) titled On the Fabric of the Ngarrindjeri Body.

Event Description:Current Brothers and Alumni are welcome to come to the House for a pre-game cookout and tailgate, starting 2 hours before kickoff. Alumni House Corporation meetings will take place alongside the festivities.

Tailgate at Alumni Hall

Date: Saturday, October 15; 9:30 a.m.
Location: Alumni Hall (211 Emmet St. S)
Event Description: Join us at Alumni Hall for a great pre-game tailgate. The tailgate begins 3 hours before kickoff and features live music, local beer, kids’ activities, food, drinks and more. All fans welcome!

Young Alumni Reunions (YAR)

Date: Evening of Saturday, October 15; 8-11 p.m.
Location: McIntire Amphitheatre
Event Description: Young Alumni Reunions (YAR) is the UVA young alumni party of the year. YAR takes place in Charlottesville on the Saturday night of Homecomings Weekend and welcomes the 4 most recently graduated classes of UVA alumni back to Grounds with a DJ and dancing, photo booth and late-night food and drink. Young alumni from the classes of 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016 can purchase tickets online.

Welcome Back Brunch: Classes of 2013-2016

Date: Saturday, October 15; 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
Location: The Biltmore
Event Description: Gear up for the game and enjoy complimentary snacks and young alumni drink specials with friends from the classes of 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016 at one of your favorite Corner spots.

Rotunda Reopening Celebration

Date: Friday, October 14; 4-6 p.m.
Location: The Rotunda
Event Description: Please join fellow UVA alumni and families to enjoy student entertainment and light refreshments, and to explore the newly renovated Rotunda.

Engineering Tailgate and Technology Demos

Date: Saturday, October 15; 10:30 a.m.
Location: Thornton Hall, Darden Courtyard
Event Description: Join UVA Engineering alumni, students, faculty and friends for our football tailgate featuring music, local BBQ, beer & wine, games, student demos and more! Stop by to check out our fun student demos like the Baja Racing Car, Hoos Flying plane and others. Suggested donation to attend is $10/person and will be accepted at the event door. Walk ups will be welcome, but we encourage you to RSVP so we can help have proper headcount for food & drink. ALL are welcome – so bring your friends and we’ll see you then!

McIntire Homecomings Tailgate

Date: Saturday, October 15; 10:30 a.m.
Location: Rouss & Robertson Halls
Event Description: Please join McIntire Dean Carl Zeithaml and your fellow McIntire alumni, parents, and friends for a Comm School Tailgate! If you’re planning on coming back to Grounds for Homecomings Weekend, we’d love to see you and your family at our tailgate. There is a $10 cost per adult. Children 17 and under are free.

Nursing Alumni Homecomings Brunch

Event Description:Join Dean Fontaine and fellow Nursing alumni and friends for the annual Homecomings Brunch before watching the Hoos take on Pittsburgh. Families are welcome.

Women’s Center & YWLP Alumni Event

Location: Maxine Platzer Lynn Women’s Center
Event Description: We’re inviting all former Women’s Center interns and YWLP Bigs from the classes of 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016 to stop by the Center for food and drinks during Homecoming Weekend.

Start your morning right with us! Come by for a drink, a bite to eat, and a chance to see what’s been happening at the Center since you graduated. Check out history with our new Iris Magazine covers display or view photos and stories from the 2015 “Every Body Has a Story” photo galleries. We want to hear what you’re up to and toast the successes you have found since leaving UVA!

Event Description: Stop by the UVA Bookstore before heading out to the game on Saturday for our “Tastes of Tailgating” event where you can sample some of the most tasty snacks from our most popular food vendors for free!

Event Description: Inflatable obstacle course, games, food and raffles to start off Homecomings week with a bounce!

IFC/ISC Trinity Burger Competition

Date: Starts Monday, October 10 and lasts all week!
Location: Trinity Irish Pub
Event Description: Come eat a burger and earn points for your sorority or fraternity. Winners get a Trinity sponsored prize for their chapter!

UVA Spirit Themed Dinner

Date: Tuesday, October 11; 5-8 p.m.

13th Annual Pancakes for Parkinson’s

Date: Saturday, October 15; 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
Location: The Lawn
Event Description: Come celebrate UVA Homecoming Weekend and the beautiful fall weather at this outdoor philanthropy brunch! Pancakes for Parkinson’s is a UVA tradition, featuring free pancakes and toppings, activities for kids, and performances by various UVA music and dance groups. All donations will go to support Parkinson’s Disease research and the search for a cure through the Michael J. Fox Foundation.

Multicultural Student Center Alumni Tour

Date: Sunday, October 16; 9 a.m.-noon
Location: Newcomb Hall, Multicultural Student Center
Event Description: Stop by the new Multicultural Student Center (MSC) in the Lower Level of Newcomb Hall on Sunday between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. for a tour of the MSC before it opens to students. The MSC interns will be present to give you more information on the Center’s goals for the year and how you can get involved as an alum. Starbucks coffee and Bodo’s Bagels will be served.
