On-Air with Melody Barnes

Show your support for the Democracy Initiative by giving back today!

Melody Barnes, the Dorothy Danforth Compton Professor and a Professor of Practice at the Miller Center, and the Co-Director for Policy & Public Affairs for the Democracy Initiative at the College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences, joined On-Air with UVA to discuss “How the Current Crisis has Illuminated Chronic Challenges to Democracy.”

Melody Barnes brought her years of experience to the discussion as the former Director of White House Domestic Policy Council under President Barack Obama, the former executive vice president of the Center for American Progress and as a Chief counsel to Sen. Edward M. Kennedy. UVA alumni and friends asked questions ranging from the impact of COVID-19 on the upcoming voting process for the 2020 elections to how UVA’s Democracy Initiative is educating UVA students to participate in challenging conversations that shape will our democracy.
