FAQ

Below, you’ll find a list of frequently asked questions about Black Alumni Weekend. If you have additional questions, please contact Becca Nelson at beccanelson@virginia.edu or (434) 243-9042.

Who is invited to BAW?

All UVA alumni with a connection to the Black community at the University are invited to attend. Alumni are welcome to bring guests to all events.

When does registration open?

Registration will open in January 2019.

When will I get more information about BAW?

In addition to our monthly e-newsletters, you will receive a BAW brochure and an email when registration opens. Be sure to let us know if you need to update your contact information so you will receive these materials.

How much does it cost to attend BAW?

Prices are dependent on the events you plan to attend.  Pricing is per person; alumni and guests will be asked to pay the same amount. The pricing will be available in January when registration opens.

When should I plan to arrive in Charlottesville for BAW?

The majority of events will occur on Friday, April 5 and Saturday, April 6. However, there will be additional events on Thursday, April 4th.

Is BAW family-friendly?

Yes! Children and families are invited to all BAW events except the Saturday Night dance party, which is limited to guests over 21 years of age. In addition to on-Grounds childcare during nighttime activities, events specific to children will be offered during the day. The Saturday Cookout is the largest event of the weekend and a great event to enjoy with your family and friends!

How can I help?

The best way to ensure you have a great time at BAW is to make sure your friends are there. Committee members are responsible for contacting 10-20 of their friends to encourage them to come.  If you are interested in helping with the committee, please fill out the form here.
