Each year, the Events Committee plans over 100 events for our diverse and active New York alumni base. These events generally fall into one of the following categories below. The Committee continuously seeks ideas and are always looking to expand our programming. Have an idea? Bring it to the committee meeting! This committee meets on the last Monday of each month at 7 PM. All are welcome to join us at these meetings! We ask that each committee member plan one activity or co-host one event per year.
Athletics
The Club organizes game watches in New York City so that UVA fans can come together to cheer on the Hoos. The Club also participates in intramural sports like softball in Central Park every summer and Zog Sports casual touch football in the winter.
Book Club
The Book Club gathers at an alum’s home every six weeks to discuss a book over refreshments. Special guests have included Taylor Antrim (MFA ’04), author of The Headmaster’s Ritual and Ed Hayes (CLAS ’69), whom Tom Wolfe based his character Tommy Killian on in The Bonfire of the Vanities.
Networking
The Club hosts a monthly Networking Breakfast on the third Tuesday of every month and is continuously looking for programming that will allow alums to expand their professional network.
Social
Social events include monthly Wahoo Wednesday happy hours, “Hoos Moving to NYC” and “Hoos New to NYC” parties, the Holiday Party, New Easters Party, and all other one-off events that are brought to the committee.
Speakers
The committee works with both the University and alumni communities to bring distinguished speakers to the Yale Club. In the past, we have hosted book signings, professor lectures, and industry-specific alumni panels. Annual events include the Media Panel in January, the Financial Panel in June, and the Real Estate Panel held every other year.
