Virtual Playground of Empathy DEI Experience

February 8 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

$5

You are invited to celebrate Black History Month by walking in the shoes of ‘I’, a Black queer student at UVA.

Empathable is a journey of walking in many others’ shoes — point-of-view film, centered on real moments in the lives of real people, that radically increases the amount of empathy participants have for other members of their community. The experience puts us in the shoes of someone else; we leave with exposure to difference, the single most scientifically influential factor in disarming bias and building empathy.

In this immersive session, we’ll explore identity and intersectionality through empathy-building exercises. Then we’ll have the opportunity to meet “I”, a Black, queer student at UVA, stepping in her shoes and viewing some of their real lived experiences through her eyes. We’ll also have chances for discussion. Can’t make this session? We’ll be holding two additional events with Empathable in 2023!

Your $5 ticket will be donated to the UVA Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Registrants will receive the Zoom link via email prior to the event. We ask that participants register by 12:00 p.m. on the day of the event. If you have questions, email us at uvanyc@uvanyc.org.

About Empathable and Playground of Empathy: Playground of Empathy was established in 2018 in Charlottesville after seeing how a dearth of emotional education has led to xenophobia and polarization. Playground of Empathy has continued to collaborate with the University.
