Virtual Biodynamic Sustainable Wine Tasting

September 23, 2020 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

UVA alumna and sommelier Rosemary Walker (CLAS ’03) of TOGETHER-NESS will lead us in a virtual wine tasting of biodynamic wines, a subset of sustainable, organic wines.

Throughout the casual, entry-level tasting, Rosemary will share with us the history and technique of biodynamic winemaking.

Developed in the 1920s by Austrian philosopher Rudolph Steinger, biodynamic farming is a holistic view of agriculture. The idea behind biodynamics is that everything is interconnected. Biodynamic wines use organic farming while also using soil supplements prepared to Rudolf Steiner’s formulas, following a celestial calendar and treating the Earth as a “living and receptive organism”.

Participants will be responsible for bringing their own wines to this virtual tasting. For this tasting, we recommend visiting your local wineshop and asking for a biodynamic wine in your favorite grape varietal. With endless options, there’s no wrong choice!

Registrants will receive the Zoom link via email prior to the event. We ask that participants register by 12:00 p.m. the day of the event.

If you have questions, feel free to email us at uvanyc@uvanyc.org.
