On-Air with Karen McGlathery
July 9, 2020 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm
The Virginia Club of New York and the Environmental Resilience Institute invite you to join Karen McGlathery for a private conference call to discuss “Natural Solutions to Climate Change.” Karen McGlathery, Professor of Environmental Sciences, Director of UVA’s Environmental Resilience Institute, and Director of the Virginia Coast Reserve Long Term Ecological Research program, will share her thoughts and will then answer live questions from the audience.
Limiting climate warming to the target set by the Paris Climate Agreements means that we have to find ways to take carbon out of the atmosphere. One key strategy is through natural systems that take up carbon dioxide and store it for decades to centuries. How can we manage, restore, and conserve natural systems like wetlands and forests to maximize this potential? UVA researchers are at the forefront of designing solutions for ‘blue’ carbon systems, like underwater seagrass meadows, that a key part of this strategy for climate mitigation.
