Cavaliers Care: KEEN Volunteering

April 16, 2016 @ 1:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Cavaliers Care is a worldwide volunteerism initiative based on one of the core principles of a Jeffersonian society—citizenship. This tie that binds together Virginia alumni, families, and friends serves as the foundation of this program.

Join the Virginia Club of New York during its Cavaliers Care outing with KEEN, a volunteer-lead, nonprofit dedicated to providing free recreational opportunities to children and young adults with disabilities by pairing them with trained volunteers for fun, noncompetitive activities.

Volunteers will be assigned one program participant, or “athlete.” We will be working with 13 to 21-year olds during this activity. The volunteer’s job is to help athletes take part in different sports activities (soccer, basketball, football, baseball) and to have a good time. Athletes and coaches may throw a basketball or kick a soccer ball, or they may take a walk around an outdoor track. Many athletes love to bounce on large therapy balls, and others enjoy speeding across the floor on 4-wheeled scooter boards. When athletes want a break from all of the physical activity, there is a room where they can do some arts and crafts.

Limited space is available.
