Programs and Services Supported by Membership

For 178 years, the Alumni Association has been there to make sure that the ties that bind alumni together, along with the University they love, remain strong and vital. Membership plays a crucial role in providing quality programs and services that benefit the University, students and all alumni.

Admission Liaison Program
The Admission Liaison Program empowers alumni to effectively support their children’s college search process with an eye toward admission to the University. ALP is often a critical resource and point of contact for our alumni and their children.

Alumni Career Services
Alumni Career Services empowers alumni every day to mindfully navigate their careers and work lives through an integrated process that offers advising, networking, online tools and education. The desire for these services is unprecedented, extending from graduation day to “retirement,” and is one of the best ways the Alumni Association can support our alumni.

Alumni Hall
Alumni Hall continues to serve as an important place for students, alumni, guests, and community members to gather for all sorts of occasions. More than 335 events were hosted at Alumni Hall this past school year.

Alumni Interest Groups
Alumni Interest Groups (AIG) give alumni the opportunity to preserve the history and the traditions they shared while on Grounds and work together to continue to shape the University community after Final Exercises.

Black Alumni Weekend
Since its inception 30 years ago, BAW has created much excitement amongst alumni through its educational lectures, career networking opportunities and social activities. BAW is one of the nation’s premier alumni reunion programs, bringing over 1500 alumni and friends back to Grounds to reconnect with each other and the University.

Class Councils & Trustees
Class councils and trustees (created and educated each year through the Alumni Association) provide the backbone of student leadership, and form the basis for alumni volunteers. Resume, housing, and “how to choose a major” workshops, as well as faculty dinners, are some of the abundant programming that flows through to students via the programs.

Class Reunions & Celebrations
Reunion Weekends allow alumni to reconnect with classmates and UVA through class events, seminars, student organization receptions, tours and much more. All of these celebrations enhance existing ties and foster new ones.

Football Weekends
Join friends and classmates at Alumni Hall to kick off the football game the right way. The Football Weekend tailgates feature live bands, tap takeovers by local breweries, kids’ activities, food, drinks and more.

Scholarships & Endowments
The association supports a variety of students through the generosity of its alumni by creating opportunities for deserving students to attend the University who might not otherwise be able to do so. The Legacy Scholarship is a merit- and financial-based award for incoming legacy students.

Virginia Magazine
Published by the Alumni Association since 1901, the publication is circulated quarterly to more than 225,000 UVA alumni, faculty, students and parents. In print and online, the magazine provides award-winning articles about current events, cherished history and the lore of the University.

Young Alumni Council
Since its genesis in the mid-’90s, the Young Alumni Council has emulated the enterprising nature of the Alumni Association and been the source for many ideas of great impact. Examples include HoosOnline, Young Alumni Reunions, Giving TueHoosDay and Alumni Career Services.
