Overview

Join us for an afternoon of Russian culture and the Moscow Ballet’s presentation of Great Russian Nutcracker. Prior to the performance, enjoy an intimate reception and lecture with UVA’s Professor Anna Borovskaya-Ellis, Department of Slavic Languages and Literature. Ms. Borovskaya-Ellis will share her extensive knowledge in Russian language, literature, history, and culture. Then stroll a few blocks of the Charlottesville Downtown Mall to The Paramount Theater and take in the sights and sounds of this Moscow Ballet production that features world-class artists, over 200 dazzling costumes, and stunning sets. Celebrate the holiday tradition and Tchaikovsky’s timeless score.

Anna Borovskaya-Ellis

Professor, UVA’s Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures

Professor Borovskaya-Ellis received her Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees from the Philology Department at Herzen State Pedagogical University in St. Petersburg, Russia. After moving to the United States, she completed a MA at the University of Missouri and PhD in Slavic Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. During her graduate programs, she gained extensive experience in teaching language, literature, history, and culture. She has taught in multiple countries to people of various age groups, economic backgrounds, and religions. At UVA, Professor Borovskaya-Ellis teaches different levels of Russian and Methods of Teaching Slavic Languages.

Participant Physical Abilities

For handicap accessibility to CitySpace, a ramp can be found on 5th street that will lead to the entrance. The Paramount Theater is two and a half blocks down the Charlottesville Downtown Mall and is handicap accessible.

Parking is available at the Market Street and Water Street Garages for an hourly fee. Several other surface lots are available for an hourly rate in the downtown area.
