American whiskey has left its unmistakable mark on the world of spirits and cocktails — both here in the U.S. and across the globe! Join Micah LeMon, author and The Alley Light bar manager, for a deep dive into American whiskey and whiskey cocktails. Explore the flavors and surprising history of two of America’s most beloved and oldest whiskey cocktails, the Old Fashioned and the Mint Julep.

If you would like to follow along and build your own cocktails, Lifetime Learning will provide an ingredients list to those who register for this event.

Suzanne Morse Moomaw, director of the University of Virginia Press, will join the event, provide background on the Press, and introduce Micah and his book that is available for purchase here.

Age Requirement: All UVA alumni, parents, and friends 21 and older are invited.

Micah LeMon is the bar manager at the James Beard Award-nominated The Alley Light (Charlottesville, VA). He writes a column on craft cocktails for C-Ville Weekly and is the author of his handbook on the theory and practice of making a great cocktail.

Suzanne Morse Moomaw

Director, University of Virginia Press

Suzanne Morse Moomaw was named director of the University of Virginia Press in January 2020. Moomaw is an associate professor of urban and environmental planning in UVA’s School of Architecture and director of the Community Design Research Center. She has served on the Press’s board of directors since 2015, the last two years as chair.
