In lieu of the Cavalier Marching Band preparing to march in the fabled Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade this year, we’ve conducted a (very scientific) scan of the best New-York style pizza options near U.Va.
While nothing except a trip to Manhattan may be able to replicate the hand-tossed, bewitchingly thin crust of every New Yorker’s favorite pie, the ever-expanding food scene in Charlottesville certainly comes close!
Here are our picks for the best NY-style slice in Charlottesville:
1. Christian’s Pizza
No contest here! Christian’s is a Charlottesville establishment, beloved by undergrads and locals alike for its consistently delicious, crispy crust and ever-changing topping combinations.
2. Benny Deluca’s
What’s not to love about a whisper-thin slice of pizza the size of your face? A “Virginia Slice” from Benny Deluca’s wouldn’t be out of place on the streets of SoHo.
3. Anna’s Ristorante & Pizzeria
This no-frills neighborhood joint near Scott Stadium offers pizza that’s as unassuming as it is flavorful. And, best of all, you can usually pick up in just 15-20 minutes.
Our marching Cavaliers will certainly find out what real NY-style pizza tastes like in November! To help make sure they’re well-fed—and well-funded—while representing U.Va. on the national scale, contribute directly to their Macy’s Parade trip and learn about ways to join and cheer on the band.
