There is no bigger rivalry in the Commonwealth of Virginia than the one between UVA and Virginia Tech. Every year we watch our sports teams compete and cheer on our beloved Hoos. But starting September 1, 2017 a new type of competition will start and it will help accomplish something that no game could ever do: Feed our local neighbors.
This is the first time that the Peninsula Alumni Chapters of UVA and Virginia Tech have taken on a food drive. The drive starts on September 1, 2017 and ends on November 24th, the day of the UVA vs. Virginia Tech football game. The school that raises the most money for the Food Bank wins. But the most important aspect is to participate and support the Food Bank as they help those in need. To join in the Hoos vs. Hokies Food Fight, make your online donations to the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank.
The Virginia Peninsula Foodbank has been the leading hunger relief organization across the Greater Peninsula. They support the 1 in 7 Virginians who struggle with hunger in the Cities of Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson and Williamsburg, and the Counties of Gloucester, James City, Mathews, Surry and York.
Who will win the first Food Fight? Let’s Go Hoos!
To kick off the Food Fight we will be having Happy Hour with the Virginia Tech alumni at Tradition Brewing in Newport News.
