Join the Book Club for our Back to School Classroom Project

Now that Back to School season is underway, the Book Club is adopting a DC elementary school classroom in a high poverty area and will build up their classroom library with chapter books! For children enrolled in DC Public Schools in high poverty areas, a classroom library is likely the only opportunity to develop a love of reading.  If children don’t develop reading skills at a young age, it often negatively impacts their educational and career opportunities for the rest of their lives.  Due to budgetary constraints, many classrooms are under-supplied and teachers have turned to the non-profit Donorschoose.org to request help from the public.

In just five days, thanks to your help, we created a classroom library for Ms. Cooper’s 2nd grade classroom at Ludlow-Taylor Elementary School!  Now, we are adopting a second classroom: Ms. Guillotte’s 4th grade classroom at Plummer Elementary School.  She has identified the books she would like for her classroom library and donations can be made online, specifically at this link:
