You Won’t Want to Miss This Happy Hour…

Tuesday, February 25th
6:30pm – 8:30pm
Taqueria Nacional

$20

For the Service Committee’s next Activist Lit meeting, we’re joining forces with the DC Hoos Networking Committee to host a happy hour meet-up at Taqueria Nacional. All alumni, parents, and friends are welcome to join us. We purposely selected a location launched by a woman leader – James Beard award-winning chef Ann Cashion. A hot spot for fresh, locally-sourced Mexican food and refreshing margaritas, Taqueria Nacional is located near the lively 14th and U Street corridors. Taqueria Nacional has continually been recognized for its high quality and authenticity, receiving honors from Bon Appetit magazine and the Mexican Embassy.

Our discussion will center on philanthropist Melinda Gates’ book “The Moment of Lift: How Empowering Women Changes the World”. Gates makes a bold claim: when we lift up women, we lift up humanity. She shares the stories of brave women fighting for equality all around the world, while also sharing her personal journey of achieving equality in her marriage and finding her voice. Given our career-focused event, we’ll delve into some of the points Gates raises on women in the workplace as we provide an opportunity for Hoos to network with one another. While this is a women-focused event, all are welcome to attend.

Space is limited so please sign up ASAP. $20/person includes appetizers, and one drink ticket for a margarita, beer, or aguas fresca. Guests will be able to purchase additional drinks and tacos on their own tab if they wish to stay for dinner. Any proceeds from the event will be sent to one of the women-focused organizations featured in the book — attendees will be able to cast a vote on which one to support at the event.

*Activist Lit was created to gather Hoos to read about and discuss a social issue, highlighting an organization that is making a difference to confront that issue. However, if you don’t have a chance to read or finish the book, you are still welcome to join us!
