Applying to business school is about more than just the GMAT: it’s about presenting yourself in the best possible light, differentiating yourself from other qualified applicants, and directly addressing any potential weaknesses. MBA admissions consultants and graduates of UVA’s McIntire School of Commerce, Meredith Shields and Melody Jones, share best practices for successfully applying to the top MBA programs. Meredith and Melody will discuss how to best get started on the MBA application process and will share tips for improving your chances of admission to a top program.

About Meredith Shields and Melody Jones

Meredith has advised clients from every region of the world on how to reach their MBA goals and is proud to have been part of the journey for former clients who are now students at, or graduates of, the most elite schools in the world. Meredith co-founded Vantage Point after consulting for five years with an industry-leading admissions consulting firm, and she brings deep experience working with a variety of different clients and schools. As a former investment banker and strategy consultant in the US, as well as someone who has lived and worked on three continents, Meredith has a broad range of professional experience that enables her to understand and differentiate candidates from different regions and industries. Meredith has an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management and is a graduate of the University of Virginia’s McIntire School of Commerce. After starting her career in investment banking, Melody went to business school to propel her desired career switch into brand management for L’Oreal. Now on the other side of the table, Melody has leveraged what she’s learned personally and through advising many others over the years to co-develop a winning system that can help every MBA applicant develop his or her strongest application. Melody holds a B.S. in Commerce from the University of Virginia’s McIntire School of Commerce, and an MBA from Columbia Business School.
