About George Michie

As Co-Founder of RKG | The Rimm-Kaufman Group, George Michie (Grad ’90) joined Founder Alan Rimm-Kaufman in 2003 to bootstrap an agency from 2 guys and a dream to a globally recognized digital agency. George led the development of RKG’s proprietary paid search marketing algorithm, as well as RKG’s hiring, training and service delivery practices and processes. He became CEO of RKG in 2008 and led RKG through a transformational period in the wake of Alan’s death. In 2013 George passed the CEO torch to focus more attention on the science of marketing and client service.

In 2014 RKG was acquired by Merkle, a leading digital agency with deep roots in marketing analytics and customer relationship management. George remained at Merkle for a year post acquisition as Chief Marketing Scientist for the Digital Agency Group, but left in June 2015 to focus attention on giving back to his community.

A prolific writer, George had a regular column at Search Engine Land from 2007 – 2015, co-authored academic papers and book chapters, and helped build the RKG Blog into a go-to source of industry insights. George served on Google’s agency council from 2008 – 2015, was featured on Google webinars and hangouts and worked closely with the Bing product development team. He was a frequent speaker at Shop.org, Internet Retailer, SMX East/West/Advanced, Search Insider Summit, and many other conferences. He is a regular guest lecturer at UVA’s Darden School of Business.
