The University of Virginia’s alumni have always been committed to making a positive benefit on society; you may remember serving with Madison House or engaging with a Charlottesville community organization.  Yet alumni often struggle to translate that commitment in their careers. Are you intellectually challenged in the work you do, but sometimes feel empty inside, like you’re not making a difference? Do you sometimes get discouraged because living out your values in the workplace seems incompatible with being successful? Join Ross Baird (Col ’07) for a webinar to discuss how a growing group of entrepreneurs and investors world-wide are re-claiming entrepreneurship to solve major problems in society through impact investing.

Impact investing is an approach to business and investments that seeks to build companies that achieve financial success, as well as making an intentional, proactive positive impact beyond financial returns. Impact investments can range from off-grid solar companies bringing power to hundreds of millions in India and sub-Saharan Africa to education technologies that bring access to opportunity to children across the US and the world. Over the past 2 years alone, the Global Impact Investing Network estimates that $17 billion worldwide has been dedicated to “impact investments”, and the approach is growing like wildfire.
