About Alumni Interest Groups

Alumni Interest Groups (AIGs) are communities of alumni that share a commonality that have built a tie or bond to each other as part of the University experience. The AIG program offers UVA alumni, family and friends opportunities to engage in the life of the University in Charlottesville and as well as regions across the country. These groups are volunteer organizations dedicated to celebrating connections, providing enrichment and continuing the UVA’s tradition of service.

Fundraising services are available for groups who contract with a communications package, including:

  • Capital Campaign Support
    • Feasibility Study
      • Conduct demographic analysis of alumni
      • Establish ultimate monetary goal and periodic benchmarks
      • Identify potential donors & their giving capabilities
      • Identify potential volunteers/campaign captains
    • Gift & Pledge Tracking
      • Register pledges & gifts with UVA Fund office
      • Establish system for reporting all gifts and pledges
    • Consultation
      • Strategic guidance throughout campaign
      • Analysis of progress; approach and planning assistance
  • Annual Giving Support
    • Annual Development Calendar
      • Identify annual goals and benchmarks
      • Integrate communications to maximize contributions
      • Assistance writing fundraising-oriented materials

      • Incorporate effective fundraising strategies into planning process
      • Assist in development and logistical planning of event

The AIG department employs a full-time event planning professional for reunions and event services, which are available to any groups who contract with a communications package:

  • Alumni Hall
    • Boardroom free to use for meetings, etc.
    • Ballroom free or available at Friends & Family rate, pending day of the week
  • Event & Reunion Planning Support
    • Logistical support from the earliest stages of planning to event execution

Groups who contract as AIGs are afforded use of Alumni Hall’s data and accounting services through the AIG department and the UVA Fund:

  • Banking Services
    • Account housing – minimal fees & purchasing card
    • Investment capabilities through UVIMCO
  • Gift & Pledge Services
    • Gift acknowledgement
    • Pledge reminders
  • Alumni Hall Database
    • Contains contact & professional information
    • Updated daily
    • Used for mailing lists, event attendance lists and more
